During the last days I have had to discuss with several clients the different software modules as well as tools that are common in the world of mobile robotics. The truth is that I had to prepare a simple scheme that cannot be found on the internet and that can shed a lot of light on both newcomers and experts in mobile robots:

As you can see, there are four main boxes: the two to the left for tools and the two to the right for SW modules running on the mobile robot and the fleet manager. For sure not all mobile robot systems work in this way, but this scheme is quite approximate in most of the cases. Additionally, there are several names in the market for the same modules and even some modules can be mixed up.
